How we’re organised

BT operates as a single business, made up of different organisational units. Our business is built around our customers – serving their needs and delivering value to them. We do this by rapidly developing and delivering innovative solutions; selling products and services that are an essential part of modern life.

We have four customer-facing lines of business: Consumer, Enterprise, Global and Openreach. They are supported by our internal service units, Digital and Networks.

Our business-to-business unit keeps over 1.2 million UK and Republic of Ireland businesses connected. This also includes the public sector and critical national infrastructure organisations as well. And on top of that, we also provide our network solutions to other communications providers too.

We don’t just serve British businesses. Our network spans 180 countries; helping our customers to solve any connectivity or communication problems they may have. We integrate, secure, and manage networks and cloud infrastructure for multinational corporations.

Our internal Digital unit is responsible for leading BT’s digital transformation, driving experience innovation and delivering the products and services our customers need to support their own goals.

Our internal Networks unit is responsible for designing, building and running the networks and technology platforms that BT, and our customers, rely on.

In October 2018, Openreach became a legally separate company from BT, with our own board and strategy. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of BT Group.

Even though Openreach is a separate company from BT, it’s still part of our BT Group. And it’s job is to keep the UK’s fixed connectivity network in tip-top condition. Openreach connect our homes, mobile phone masts, schools, hospitals, broadcasters, and businesses of all shapes and sizes. It helps to create the best possible network with the highest quality service, for everybody.
