We caught up with Katy to tell us more about how she became a Delivery, Support & Operations Engineer.
My name is Katy, I'm 21 years old and have worked at BT for 3 years.
I play Netball competitively for County as a Goal Defence.
I work in the Dynamic Networks 24/7 Operations Centre as a Delivery, Support & Operations Engineer. This involves monitoring and managing many of BT’s networks and services, ensuring that we provide high quality and reliable services to our customers. My role includes investigating and fixing faults across BT’s platforms, both proactively and reactively. In some instances this involves responding to, and fixing live failures to restore customer service as quickly and efficiently as possible making sure that we meet our Service SLA’s.
I joined BT in 2016 as a Networking Apprentice. During my 3 year apprenticeship, I was able to rotate across Dynamic Networks in different areas. This included Network Operations, Network Testing, Network Design, Software Development and Delivery Management. This allowed me to understand the Delivery Cycle and how the teams communicate and work together to achieve a goal.
During my apprenticeship, BT sponsored me to complete a Level 4 NVQ in Telecommunications as well as allowing me to attend the University of Suffolk to complete an FdSc in Network Engineering. Following my apprenticeship, I am still always encouraged to take opportunities to upskill myself on new technologies, including Vendor Accreditations, Top-Up Degrees and further development programmes. BT fully supports me to develop both my career and myself as an individual. As a woman in technology, I am very passionate to continue a career down this path.
You won’t regret it! There are so many career paths available that there will most definitely be one suited to you.
Working at Adastral Park is very exciting. It has huge resource and knowledge.
My team is very important to BTs future. New technologies and services are being introduced all of the time and we are responsible for maintaining and monitoring these. This means we are always learning and adapting to change.
