How do I change the wi-fi channel on my BT Hub

We don't recommend manually changing wireless channels on the BT Hubs as this turns off Smart Wireless. When Smart Wireless is on, the Hub will automatically select the wireless channel with the least interference, changing to a different one if it gets too congested.

If you think your wi-fi isn't working as it should, use our wi-fi checklist to help you get the best connection >

If you still want to make sure you're on the best wireless channel, we recommend you do a refresh rather than choosing a wireless channel manually.

This means the BT Hub will always choose the best channel available. And Smart Wireless will automatically monitor the channels to maintain a good connection.

If you still want to change the wireless channel manually, click on the dropdown for your Hub:

If you decide to continue with manual channel selection, this will turn off the Smart Wireless feature.

  1. Open a new web browser on a device connected to your Hub and type 192.168.1.254 in the address bar. This will open the Hub manager
  2. Click Advanced Settings
  3. Click Wireless
  4. Enter the admin password. Unless you've previously changed it, you'll find the default password on your Hub settings card on the back of your Hub. If you have changed it and now forgotten it, you can use the password override feature to set up a new password without losing all your personal Hub settings and configuration
  5. To choose a specific wireless channel, you need to split your wireless bands. Change the separate bands switch to On. By splitting your network, you'll create a second visible network name for the 5GHz band. The new network name will have a "-5" to show it's for the 5GHz band
  6. With the wireless bands split, you can now customise your wireless settings
  7. Click on the "Wireless channel" box for the wireless band you want to customise
  8. Choose the wireless channel you wish to use and click Set
  9. Remember once you make any changes you will need to save them. Click Save
  10. After saving you will be prompted that as your wireless network name has changed, you may need to reconnect devices to the new network name
