Hybrid Connect

What is Hybrid Connect?

This clever bit of kit links to your Smart Hub 2. If your broadband ever goes down, Hybrid Connect kicks in automatically and keeps you connected through the mobile network.

How does Hybrid Connect work?

The lights on the front of Hybrid Connect show you its status.

If everything is working as it should be the central light and 4G signal bands will be blue (as will the light on your Smart Hub). This means it is ready to connect your Smart Hub to the mobile network if your broadband cuts out.

If your broadband has cut out, the Hybrid Connect device will take action.

After a couple of minutes, its 4G signal bars will turn white, indicating the device is using mobile data. In this situation, the light on your Smart Hub will turn purple. This shows that it’s using our mobile network with the help of your Hybrid Connect device.

If your broadband hasn’t been provided yet, your Hybrid Connect device will use our mobile network to get online. Its 4G signal bars will be white and the light on your Smart Hub will be purple.

How do I set up Hybrid Connect?

The My BT App can guide you through setting up Hybrid Connect. Download the My BT app here.

Or download a copy of our set up guide.

Can I connect Hybrid Connect to my Smart Hub 2 by wi-fi?

We recommend using the Ethernet cable for the best, most reliable connection. In some homes Hybrid Connect may need to be moved further from the Smart Hub to get a good 4G signal. If Hybrid Connect has already been connected to your Smart Hub by the Ethernet cable you can unplug Hybrid Connect's cable, restart it, and it will automatically link to the Smart Hub using wi-fi.

Note: Hybrid Connect cannot be connected to the Smart Hub through Complete Wi-Fi discs, 3rd party wi-fi adapters or powerline adaptors.

My Smart Hub 2 light is purple what does this mean?

The Smart Hub 2 light turns purple when it is connected to the internet using Hybrid Connect. If you are waiting for your broadband to be provided this is normal. If not check that your Smart Hub is plugged into your broadband line. If it is, there may be a broadband line fault. You can troubleshoot your broadband  or call us at 0800800150.

Positioning tips to get the most out of Hybrid Connect

The Hybrid Connect device works best when it’s attached to a Smart Hub with an Ethernet cable. But it can connect to the hub without it. So if you’ve set up Hybrid Connect and your 4G signal isn’t strong enough, it’s time to try moving your device to another location. Your Hybrid Connect device will then connect to your Smart Hub using wi-fi.

Look for a location that’s:

  • Well ventilated
  • Raised up from the floor
  • Away from other electronics
  •  Near a plug and a window
  • Relatively close to your hub

The lights on the device will tell you when you’ve found a good spot. Aim for the central light to be blue and the 4G signal bars to also be blue and showing 1, 2, or 3 bars.

If you still cannot locate a 4G signal try moving further away from the Smart Hub to where the 4G signal bars are blue. At this location the central light may turn orange.

If your central light turns red then try another location closer to the Smart Hub.

If your Hybrid Connect cannot pick up a 4G signal contact us on 0800800150.
