4K, HDR and Dolby Atmos explained

BT Sport Ultimate has been on our TV boxes since 2015. 4K images have four times as many pixels as standard HD, so you get sharper, more detailed pictures.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) offers higher contrasts between light and dark, resulting in more vivid colours and brighter images on screen. TVs with HDR can display a wider range of colours - closer to what we see in real life, preserving fine details in the very darkest and brightest areas of the picture.

Dolby Atmos brings an improved surround sound experience. Sound moves around a three-dimensional space, giving an immersive experience so you feel like you're in the heart of the action. You'll need to have an Atmos speaker system to enjoy the benefit of it.

BT Sport Ultimate 4K and HDR internet requirements

To watch BT Sport Ultimate in HDR you'll need a minimum connection speed of 2.5Mbps on mobiles and tablets, but we recommend at least 6Mbps for the best possible viewing experience.

On other connected devices, such as games consoles and Smart TVs, you'll need at least 6Mbps and if you want to stream in 4K HDR, you'll need a connection speed of at least 30Mbps.

To stream in 4K without HDR requires a connection speed of 25Mbps. We strong recommend that any device that you're using to stream in 4K or 4K HDR is connected to your BT Hub using an ethernet cable, rather than wi-fi.

*Samsung Smart TVs from 2016 and 2017 will show selected BT Sport Ultimate programmes in Enhanced HDR, which offers superior picture quality to HD HDR. 2018 and 2019 models support full 4K HDR.
** Chromecast Ultras built in to TVs are not supported.
