As a BT Sport customer, you can now watch selected matches in 360-degree VR through the BT Sport App.
What is VR 360?
VR 360 provides a completely different viewing experience from the usual fixed-camera positions, allowing you to look around in a 360-degree view.
You can use it in either Smartphone or Cardboard View.
- Smartphone View gives you the ability to pan around from different viewpoints holding your device in front of you
- Cardboard View requires a VR headset and provides a fully immersive VR experience, where you use the headset to look around
How can I watch VR 360?
VR 360 is available through the enhanced player within the BT Sport App at no extra cost. Only certain matches will have VR 360 available - it won’t be available on all. Some matches will have live VR 360 and 360 VR highlights available; some will only have VR 360 highlights but no live.
There are multiple ways to access VR 360 content. You can choose from one of two buttons in the top-right of the player to watch live or selected clips in VR.
Alternatively, you can watch VR 360 highlights as part of the multi-cam option within the timeline. This will only be available on selected highlights on the timeline.
To use VR 360, you'll need:
- A compatible smartphone or tablet
- The ability to watch live content on the BT Sport App (the content is the same on the app as on your TV)
- The latest version of the BT Sport App
- iOS 12.0 or Android 4.4 minimum operating system
If you don't already have it, you can download the app by searching for 'BT Sport' in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Sorry, but you can't access VR 360 content from the Web Player.
Can I use Google Cardboard?
Yes. Google Cardboard is a headset that your smartphone slots into to watch VR content so it feels like you're actually there!
Simply select the button in the bottom-left corner of the screen to set this view up.
You'll then watch the match through the lenses shown below; just like a pair of glasses!
What point of view can I watch from in VR 360?
This will change from match to match, depending on where the cameras are. You can choose your position when you select the 360 LIVE button.
What to know about watching
- Be aware that using VR 360 will use up a lot more data than a regular stream. If you're a BT Broadband customer, any Wi-fi data used by the BT Sport App won't count towards your broadband data allowance
- If you feel ill at any point, you should stop watching. It's best not to use VR 360 if you're extremely tired or have an ear infection
