First choose one of our phone, broadband or TV packages. When you order, enter your postcode or the phone number you want switched or reconnected to BT. If you don't have a phone number, enter your postcode and house or flat number.
It's easy to order a new landline online:
I'm not a BT customer and want a telephone line with BT >
I'm moving home and want to transfer my line and other services >
I've already got a phone line with BT but need another one >
How can I tell if I already have BT sockets in my home?
First of all, see whether you can find any phone sockets in your home. Make sure you try less obvious places, like under the stairs.
Look to see if there is a BT logo on the front of the socket box.
You can also start placing an order with us online, and we will perform a line check to see whether you have a phone line with us. Just enter your postcode on the Start your order page once you've chosen your package.
How long will it take to install a new line?
If a brand new line needs to be installed then it usually takes up to 15 working days from the time that you order. It could take longer depending on the availability, but this is very rare.
If we find you've already got a working line in your property, we could have your line up and running within a couple of days.
We'll confirm how long it will take when you order, and tell you whether an engineer needs to come to your home.
What information do I need when I contact BT to arrange a reconnection?
We need your address and postcode to set up a reconnection. If you're bringing an existing phone number with you, then we'll need the account number from your current provider. Also, if you plan to settle your account using Direct Debit, we'll need your bank details.
Do I keep my current telephone number when I switch my calls to BT?
Your telephone number will stay the same - there is no need to change this when you switch back to BT from another provider.
How long will it take before I can make my calls with BT once I've requested that my phone services are transferred from another provider?
It takes about 10 working days to transfer your phone services back to BT from another provider.
Will an engineer visit be required to switch my home phone service back to BT?
There's usually no need for an engineer to visit to switch your calls back to BT if you have an existing landline (not cable). There will also be no interruption to your telephone service and you'll be able to make and receive calls in the usual way.
