Tyron Woodley: Record, KOs, height, losses and everything you need to know ahead of Jake Paul fight

Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will put his reputation on the line this weekend when he squares off against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

Woodley is making his professional boxing debut in Cleveland, Ohio, while his 24-year-old opponent has made an electrifying start to life in the ring, winning all of his first three fights by knockout.

One of the most recognisable faces in the UFC, Woodley shares the record for the most title defences amongst male champions between 2016 and 2020, having won the strap from Robbie Lawler before defending his crown on four separate occasions.

What Woodley lacks in professional boxing experience, he more than makes up for in big-fight pedigree.

The American is a former welterweight champion, boasting victories over Robbie Lawler and Stephen Thompson before losing his 170-pound crown to up-and-coming star Kamaru Usman back in July 2020. 

That defeat began a four-fight losing streak that saw 'The Chosen One' slide down the welterweight rankings and out of the UFC in March of this this year.

Many fight commentators believed Woodley had lost focus as tried to juggle forays into Hollywood and the hip hop industry.

Now Woodley faces one of the most daunting auditions of his life as he goes toe-to-toe with Jake "The Problem Child" Paul.

Woodley called time on his UFC career earlier this year, finishing with a 19-7-1 record that included four successful title defences at welterweight.

Indeed, 'The Choses One's' time in the UFC started to unravel after defeat to current champion Karamu Usman back in 2018.

Woodley would go on to lose all three of his next fights, including his 28th and last against Vicente Luque.

Woodley has been training with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in preparation for the bout and has confidently predicted he will make light work of Paul this weekend.

“I’ve been training my a** off,” Woodley said in a recent Instagram post.

“The road work, the mitts, the bag, the drills, the sparring, the film watching – every single thing that I can do to put myself in position to be successful has been done.

“If I were a betting man, I would predict that I’m going to knock Jake Paul out in the fourth round.”

Woodley meets Paul in a hugely-anticipated match-up between two fighters at opposite ends of their career on Sunday night 30 August.

It is unclear whether Woodley will pursue a career in the squared circle after this weekend.
