BT Sport Takeover: Giving local college students the opportunity to experience and work in a real broadcast environment and create a TV show
BT Sport aired the 30-minute magazine style studio show, created by NewVic Sixth Form College students, based on lifestyle, culture and events in the sporting world and will run the course on an annual basis to give more opportunities to local students.
BT Sport ran an eight-week film making course for 12 students studying media locally at Newvic College in Newham.
The objective was to create a 30-minute magazine style studio show based on lifestyle, culture and events in the sporting world.
The production gave students full creative control of the content produced, with the training and guidance given by BT Sport staff, providing theoretical and practical experience.
The project’s aim was to provide opportunities to local media students from diverse backgrounds, enhancing their experience in a working environment and empowering them to create high standard work by creating a final professional product.
The project went so well, BT Sport aired the final show on BT Sport. The course will run on an annual basis to give more opportunities to local students.
For the second year, BT Sport was able to execute the Takeover project. Taking into account Covid safety measures, the students were still able to take part in the full course and create a magazine style show that was aired on boxing day 2020 across various BT Sport channels.
