Premier League Fixtures - Liverpool visit Fulham on BT Sport, Man City begin title defence at West Ham and Patrick Vieira's Crystal Palace play host to Arsenal in first game of the 2022/23 season

Liverpool will head down to west London on Saturday lunchtime for their opening game of the season which sees them pitted against newly-promoted Fulham in BT Sport's first live Premier League fixture of the 2022/23 season.

Manchester City begin their title defence away at West Ham on the Sunday while the first Premier League game of the new campaign takes place on Friday night as former Arsenal favourite and current Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira hosts his former club at Selhurst Park.

Chelsea visit club legend Frank Lampard's Everton to begin the season, Manchester United meet Brighton and Tottenham take on Southampton as last season's top six begin the new campaign.

Nottingham Forest's first Premier League game since 1999 is a tricky-looking trip to newly-minted Newcastle, Championship runners-up Bournemouth welcome Aston Villa to the Vitality Stadium, Wolves visit Leeds and Leicester host Brentford elsewhere in the opening day fixtures.

Liverpool missed out by a point to Manchester City for the Premier League title last term but will hope to get their season off to a flyer with victory over the Championship winners on BT Sport.

Jurgen Klopp will be looking for a far different outcome from his side after they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat in their previous meeting with Fulham at Anfield in March 2021.

Pep Guardiola's Man City, who won the title in such dramatic fashion just a few weeks ago, visit the London Stadium to begin the campaign, just as they did at the beginning of the 2019/20 season when they ran out 5-0 winners.

Once again the fixtures see Arsenal play a London club away in the Premier League's curtain-raiser and they'll be hoping for a far different outcome than the 2-0 loss at Brentford that kicked off the 2021/22 term.

The Erik ten Hag era at Old Trafford starts with the visit of Brighton on the Sunday afternoon. The Seagulls thrashed United 4-0 at The Amex towards the end of last season and the Dutchman will be wary of the threat Graham Potter's men pose.

Likewise Chelsea will be out for revenge against Lampard's Toffees on a ground where they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the start of last month that proved crucial in Everton's escape from relegation.

And at the traditional Saturday 3pm kick-off time, Nottingham Forest fans make the three-hour journey north from the east Midlands to meet a resurgent Newcastle team as they begin life back in the Premier League.

The first clash between last season's top six comes on Matchday 2 as Antonio Conte and his Tottenham side make the trip across the capital to visit the Italian's former club Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United will be out for revenge after their home humbling at the hands of Liverpool on Matchday 3 when Klopp’s men head to Old Trafford, while Eddie Howe’s Newcastle will hope to lay a marker down as they host Manchester City on the same weekend.

Looking ahead, the first Merseyside derby of the new campaign is on Matchday 6 as Everton welcome Liverpool to Goodison Park on September 3/4 with the Anfield game on the weekend of February 11/12.

The first meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City is set to take place on the weekend of October 15/16 at Anfield with the return fixture on April 1/2. The clashes between these two have generally decided the destination of the Premier League title.

The weekend of October 1/2 promises to be huge with the first Manchester and North London derbies of the season both taking place at the Etihad and the Emirates respectively.

Two-time defending champions Man City will avoid any of the traditional big boys to begin the season with games against West Ham, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest to kick off the campaign. Liverpool’s first six pits them against Fulham, Palace, Man United, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Everton.

Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa host Liverpool and Man City head to Elland Road in the pick of the Boxing Day round, which will be the first following the conclusion of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

And in the final games of the season, Fulham will hope to have enough points in the bag before they head to Old Trafford, Chelsea host Newcastle, Liverpool visit Southampton and Manchester City travel to west London to face Brentford. All games will take place on Sunday 28 May and kick off at 4pm simultaneously.

When will the 2022/23 Premier League season start and finish?

The season will commence on the weekend of August 6/7, one week earlier than the previous campaign began. It's just an 11-week break between the final day of 2021/22 and the opening game of 2022/23.

The Premier League will end on Sunday 28 May with all 10 matches kicking off simultaneously as is customary for the final match of the season.

How does the World Cup impact the Premier League season?

The Premier League will take a prolonged mid-season break to accommodate the winter 2022 World Cup in Qatar - the first time ever the top flight has taken an extended hiatus midway through the campaign.

The final set of fixtures before players are called up for international duty by their respective countries will be on the weekend of November 12/13 for Matchday 16.

Matchday 17 marks the resumption of the Premier League season and will take place with the Boxing Day set of fixtures, eight days after the World Cup final on December 18.

What is new for the 2022/23 Premier League season?

Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest are all newly-promoted to the top flight. Fulham are back after just one season in the Championship, Bournemouth after just two but Forest are preparing for a first top-flight campaign since 1999.

The biggest change aside from the Qatar World Cup mid-season break is that Premier League managers will once again have five substitutes at their disposal, just as they did when football returned from the Covid-enforced break in 2019/20.

It was scrapped in favour of the traditional three for 2020/21 and 2021/22 but in March the Premier League voted in favour of bringing five substitutes back for the 2022/23 campaign.

When does the 2022/23 Premier League transfer window open?

The transfer window for the new season reopened on Friday 10 June and runs for 12 weeks before closing on Thursday 1 September at 11pm.

The Premier League's winter transfer window opens on 1 January and closes on 31 January at 11pm.
