Our Challenge Cup semi-final coverage concludes later that day as Toulon play host to Saracens in a blockbuster clash of European royalty.

With no fewer than six Heineken Cup crowns between them, a heavyweight battle for the ages is in store as two giants of the European game slug it out for a place in the May 28 showpiece. 

Saturday's visitors Saracens edged one step closer to a fifth European final in nine years after overcoming Premiership rivals Gloucester in an action-packed all-English semi-final at Kingsholm.

Owen Farrell kicked 19 points as Sarries ran in five tries to storm into the last four.

Three Farrell penalties and a try from Aled Davies gave Saracens a 16-5 half-time lead, with Jack Singleton crossing for Gloucester.

But the visitors showed their European pedigree in the second half as scores from Maro Itoje, Nick Tompkins and Jamie George put the Londoners out of sight.

A Duncan Taylor intercept capped Sarries' dominance, before Louis Rees-Zammit scored a late consolation.

The 44-15 victory sets up a mouth-watering semi-final tie with three-time European Cup winners Toulon in a rematch of their 2014 final at Cardiff's Principality Stadium.

And Sarries will be out for revenge after a Jonny Wilkinson-inspired Toulon picked up second of three straight Heineken Cup crowns.

Sarries would win the first of their three European Cups two seasons later leaving the two sides tied on three Heineken Cups a piece as they prepare to resume hostilities this weekend.

Despite their success in Europe's premier club competition, both sides are yet to win the EPCR Challenge Cup. 

Beaten by Bristol in the 2020 final, Toulon are hoping to win their first piece of silverware since 2015 while Saracens are hoping to reach the final of the Challenge Cup a year on from earning promotion back to the Premiership.

Indeed it kicks off a crucial fortnight for Saracens' hopes of league and cup honours this season with the Premiership play-offs also on the horizon.

"The next two weeks are a crucial part of a season. We have a tough semi-final in Europe followed by a home game with Northampton, which we need to win to ensure a home semi-final in the play-offs," said Sarries director of rugby Mark McCall.

Hosts Toulon secured their place in the last four with a narrow 19-18 triumph over London Irish at the Stade Félix Mayol on Sunday.

France fly-half Louis Carbonel led the way for Toulon with a 14-point haul from the kicking tee while captain Charles Ollivon also crossed for a try.

Toulon's XV no longer includes the world-class operators of yesteryear, but they still boast some of the biggest household names in world rugby.

South African World Cup winner Eben Etzebeth's head-to-head with Maro Itoje will be eye-watering, as will Farrell versus Ma'a Nonu in midfield.

Cheslin Kolbe swapped Toulouse for Toulon at the beginning of the season and could join an elite club of players to win back-to-back European trophies with different clubs.
