All roads lead to Twickenham this weekend for the final of the 2021/22 Gallagher Premiership.

Today's final sees two titans of English rugby go head-to-head as Saracens face-off against Leicester Tigers. 

In a season that began all the way back in September 2021, only two teams remain in the hunt to be crowned kings of English rugby as one of the most entertaining campaigns in living memory comes to its thrilling conclusion in a winner-takes-all showdown.

What time is the Premiership final?

Nine months on from round one of the 2021/22 season, the final of the Gallagher Premiership will take place on Saturday 18 June.

Premiership history makers Leicester are looking to cap a record-breaking season in style as they prepare to face-off against Saracens. 

Tigers became the first team in league history to go through the entire campaign top of the table. 
It's a remarkable turnaround for a club that looked to have lost their mojo.

Leicester won eight Premiership titles between 1999 and 2013, a remarkable record that included four on the bounce.

But sides like Saracens and Exeter have subsequently dominated the domestic scene, while Leicester were only spared relegation two years ago when Saracens were demoted following repeated salary cap breaches.

Borthwick has transformed Tigers, though, since he arrived in the East Midlands ahead of the 2020-21 season.

So much so, that Leicester won all 12 of their Premiership home games this term, including last weekend's semi-final triumph over Northampton Saints.

Saracens road to redemption ends at Twickenham

Saracens will be crowned Premiership champions for a sixth time in 12 seasons if they can topple Leicester at Twickenham on Saturday.

It is barely 15 months since they were beaten by Cornish Pirates after being demoted to the Championship following repeated salary cap breaches.

Now the Men in Black are back in the Twickenham showpiece less than 12 months after a two-legged victory over Ealing earned promotion from the second tier.

Many thought Sarries’ relegation to the Championship would spell the end of an era, but Mark McCall's have bounced back in style. 

Saracens regrouped and kept the majority of their squad with a number of England stars signing new deals before promotion was secured at the first time of asking.

It has been followed by a consistent first campaign back in the top flight where last weekend’s win over Harlequins saw them book a return to Twickenham.

Former Saracens scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth is the surprise inclusion in Leicester's starting XV.

The Premiership's record appearance holder will replace Ben Youngs.

Youngs drops to the bench with 39-year-old Wigglesworth given the nod against a side where he won five Premiership titles and three European Cups.

All-time record try-scorer Chris Ashton also starts against his former club.

Sarries make one change from their semi-final win against Harlequins with lock Nick Isiekwe coming into the side at the expense of Tim Swinson.

England prop Mako Vunipola will make his 200th Saracens appearance while Premiership Player of the Year Ben Earl retains his place at openside.

Mark McCall's men finished the regular season second in the table, seven points adrift of this weekend's opponents Leicester. 

A second-placed finish set up a semi-final showdown with London rivals Harlequins. 

Saracens now stand one win away from completing their quest for redemption from their salary cap scandal after toppling champions Harlequins 34-17.

A display of trademark resilience saw Mark McCall’s men battle back from 12-3 down to score 24 unanswered points, in the process emerging largely unscathed from a lengthy Quins siege in the final quarter.

The Men in Black now face table-toppers Leicester in a repeat of the 2011 Premiership final which Sarries won to claim their first league title.

Having become the first club to go through an entire season as table-toppers, Tigers faced-off against bitter rivals Northampton Saints in a mouth-watering semi-final showdown at Welford Road.

Sale Sharks-bound fly-half George Ford marked his farewell appearance for Tigers at Welford Road with a 22-point haul that sent his team past Saints and into their first Premiership decider for nearly a decade.

Ford dedicated Leicester’s gripping play-off victory over Northampton to the Youngs family after Tigers ended a nine-year Twickenham wait.

A minute’s applause took place before kick-off at Welford Road in memory of Tiffany Youngs, who died earlier this week.

Two years on from their 11th-place finish in the league, Tigers director of rugby Steve Borthwick now has an opportunity to complete this proud club’s transformation next week against his old side Saracens.

Since the English game turned professional in 1997, Saracens and Leicester have lifted the league trophy 13 times - but which side has the most Premiership crowns to their name?

Leicester Tigers (Eight)

Leicester had a stranglehold on the Premiership trophy around the turn of the Millenium, winning English rugby's top prize for four consecutive years between 1999 and 2002.

Having finished top of the Premiership ladder in the regular season, Leicester are looking to complete their quest for a first title since 2013.

The Tigers saw off Northampton that day to win their fourth and most recent Premiership crown.

Saracens (Five)

Saracens have been English rugby's most dominant club for the last decade, winning five Premiership crowns since 2011. 

Runners-up in 2010 and 2014, the Londoners are looking to win the competition for the first time since 2019, when they overcame Exeter to win their fifth crown.

Victory over Leicester in the 2011 final was the club's first Premiership triumph.
