It was three long weeks but rugby finally returned to BT Sport this weekend, with the resumption of the Gallagher Premiership.

After a break from hostilities, the great and good of English rugby were well-rested, revved up and ready to go as the race to Twickenham restarted with round seven.

Friday 5 January

Bristol Bears 48-3 Bath

Bristol Bears secured a resounding derby victory over Bath Rugby as they set a new record winning margin in the fixture at Ashton Gate.

Five first-half tries sealed the win by half time as Luke Morahan, Charles Piutua, Andy Uren and Brian Bryne’s double punished the hapless visitors.

Semi Radrada’s solo try and a penalty try added further damage to the scoreboard as Bears secured their biggest-ever win in the 132-year history of the match.

Leicester Tigers 15-25 Sale Sharks

Sale’s new director of rugby Alex Sanderson got off to a winning start as Sharks secured a comeback victory over Leicester Tigers on Friday night.

The home side breezed into an 8-0 lead via Tom Youngs’ try and Zach Henry’s penalty but Sale hit back through AJ MacGinty converted Sam James’ breakaway try before a penalty of his own.

Sale extended their lead through Cobus Wiese and Marland Yarde tries and while Nemani Nadolo went over for Tigers, the visitors claimed victory.

Saturday 30 January

Gloucester 26-31 Northampton Saints

Bottom side Gloucester lost again after three late tries saw Northampton emerge victorious in a thrilling encounter at Kingsholm.

A Rory Hutchinson try and two from Shaun Adendorff saw Saints take control in the second half after an attritional first period, although Matias Alemanno did go over for the hosts to earn them a losing bonus point.

Gloucester stay three points behind Worcester at the foot of the Gallagher Premiership table, while Saints move up to sixth.

Worcester Warriors 17-21 Exeter Chiefs

Champions Exeter edged past a valiant Worcester outfit thanks to tries from Jonny Gray, Ian Whitten and Ollie Devoto at Sixways.

The hosts fought back after a slow start, inspired by Oli Morris’ super score, but they ultimately couldn’t reign in Rob Baxter’s side.

The Chiefs returned to winning ways after the two-week break and move up to second in the table, while Worcester remain eleventh.

Sunday 31 January

Wasps 17-49 Harlequins

Harlequins began post-Paul Gustard life with a resounding win over Wasps at the Ricoh Arena led by a man-of-the-match display from an emotional Marcus Smith.

After seeing their director of rugby leave his post to take on a role at Benetton, Quins made light of a tumultuous week thanks to Smith's 17-point performance.

The visitors ran in six tries in total with Will Evans, Danny Care, Alex Dombrandt, Louis Lynagh, James Lang and a penalty try.

London Irish 31-22 Newcastle Falcons

London Irish held off a late comeback attempt from Newcastle Falcons to record a 31-22 victory at the Brentford Community Stadium.

England call-up James Stokes was among Irish's try scorers with Agustin Creevy. Tom Parton and Curtis Rona also going over for the home side.

Newcastle threatened a comeback from 24-8 down but Rona's try late on denied them even a losing bonus point.
