UFC 280 weigh-ins replay: Catch up on UFC Fight Week from Abu Dhabi
Join Adam Catterall and Nick Peet from Abu Dhabi as the stars of UFC 280 hit the scales. Watch the replay on the stream embedded below.
Will there be more late weight drama in the lightweight division this Friday morning?
Join Adam Catterall and Nick Peet for a special live Fight Week episode from the athlete hotel where the pair will be joined by fighters, coaches and anyone else they can lay their hand on during what promises to be an interesting morning on the scales.
Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira made an unhappy trip to the stage on this day during his last UFC assignment, weighing in half a pound over the championship limit in a shock turn of events that led to him being stripped of the 155lb title.
The 33-year-old triumphed at UFC 274 regardless but is on a mission to prove he was wronged by what he believes were faulty scales in Phoenix, Arizona, by coming in perfectly on weight for UFC 280.
His title rival, Islam Makhachev, has also had one or two struggles to make lightweight in times gone by so all eyes will be on the pair to ensure they both make 155lb during a dramatic morning.
I’ll be at UFC 280 to make weight and looking forward to it
- Alexander Volkanovski
But should the worst transpire on Friday morning and one fighter fail to make weight, the UFC have moved to ensure fans will still be in for a hell of a treat after they announced featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski would serve as the official backup fighter to the main event.
That means the Australian star will have the chance to step up and become a reining two-weight champion if Charles Oliveira or Islam Makhachev are deemed ineligible to fight.
"I’ve been calling for it, I said I wanted it. I just had to make sure the hand was all good. We’re all good, got the clearance to fight,” Volk said.
“The UFC’s on board, everyone’s on board so I’ll be at UFC 280 to make weight and looking forward to it.”
That would prove high drama so late on in the day – but after the debacle that was UFC 279 a little over a month ago, the UFC have proven themselves to be one of the most agile organisations on the planet, rebooking almost an entirely new main card within less than 24 hours.
There won’t be anything like the same chaos in Abu Dhabi on Friday morning – we hope! – but make sure you’re tuned in for all the latest news, interviews and reaction to the UFC 280 weigh-ins as they happen.
