Everyone’s hoping for a festive instalment of their favourite comedy, so Mrs Brown’s Boys fans will be delighted to see the Irish sitcom back on the schedules this Christmas.

There are two special episodes to look forward to – here’s everything we know about when you can see them, who stars in them, and what hilarity you can look forward to.

When are the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas specials on TV?

Although the exact BBC One Christmas schedules haven’t been released yet, we do know that there will be two Mrs Brown’s Boys festive episodes.

We’re expecting that the broadcaster will go with tradition and as in previous years air the first on Christmas Day, and the second on New Year’s Day – keep checking back for exact timings.

What happens in each episode?

A Wonderful Mammy

As the title suggests, the first Christmas episode takes its inspiration from classic film It’s a Wonderful Life – only, we hope, with a few more laughs than the tearjerker.

No one seems to be in a Christmassy mood, with Betty annoyed at Agnes for giving Bono money, and Mark annoyed at Agnes for not listening to Betty.

Winnie thinks Agnes doesn’t care about her and Cathy thinks she’s too nosy, so in the end Mammy starts to wonder whether it would be better if she’d never been born.

Enter, Clyde, who says he’s an angel and can show Agnes what it would be like if she really had never been born and if her family was someone else’s.

Orange is the New Mammy

Bad news for Winnie in this episode – Peggy Piper the Pernod Poisoner is out on appeal and heading back to Finglas.

Of course, it was Winnie who saw Peggy poison her husband so she might be called on to give evidence again.

With much discussion about whether or not Peggy is guilty, the only answer is to actually meet her in person.

Meanwhile, Buster has lost the tank that Dermot hired for their latest promotion and must find it before he finds out.

Who will star in them?

It wouldn’t be Mrs Brown’s Boys without creator Brendan O’Carroll in the lead role of Agnes, and his wife Jennifer Gibney will also be back as Cathy.

Pat Shields plays Mark, Amanda Woods is Betty, and Jamie O’Carroll is Bono, with Danny O’Carroll returning to play Buster and Paddy Houlihan as Dermot.

Will there be another full series of Mrs Brown’s Boys?

It’s the question on every fan’s lips – but unfortunately, the answer is probably 'no' at the moment.

The last full series of the sitcom was the third series that ran from 2012 to 2013, although since then there has been a movie, tours, and annual TV specials that usually air at Christmas.

Christmas specials are already confirmed at the BBC until 2020, so we’ll have to wait and see whether O’Carroll's contract is extended beyond next year.

The comedian has previously told The Daily Star: “We are booked to do Christmas specials for the BBC until 2020 but if they go, ‘We are going to drop you as we don’t think it’s strong enough’ then I’d kill Agnes off.

“Our final episode would be the funniest show I’ve ever written for the first 24 minutes. Then the last four minutes would break your f**king heart.”

Mrs Brown’s Boys returns to BBC One for two festive specials.
