After sweeping up at the Golden Globes and Emmy Awards for her work on Fleabag and Killing Eve, Phoebe Waller-Bridge will next star in romantic comedy thriller Run, written and directed by her long-time collaborator Vicky Jones.
The series stars Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson in the lead roles, playing characters who drop everything to fulfill a pact they made 17 years before...
What is Run about?
Run is a romantic comedy thriller about a woman who leaves her dull life in the suburbs behind and travels to New York to fulfil a pact she made with her college boyfriend.
Seventeen years before, Ruby (Merritt Wever, above) and her boyfriend Billy (Domhnall Gleeson) made a vow that if either of them texted "run" and received the same in reply, they would drop everything to travel through the USA together.
Asked to describe the premise of Run to a stranger, Gleeson says: “At its core, it’s about this guy and this girl who haven’t seen each other in 15 years but who were the loves of each other’s lives.
“They haven’t been in contact since they broke up but they made a pact that if they text ‘Run’, they’ll drop everything and get a train together across America.”
When is Run released in the UK?
The comedy thriller starts on Wednesday 15 April on Sky Comedy with NOW TV.
Who's in the cast?
Nurse Jackie's Merritt Wever plays Ruby with Gleeson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as Billy, a successful life guru.
Speaking about the character of Billy Johnson, Gleeson says: “He’s a successful life guru but he tells a lot of lies, both to himself and other people. I’ve played a couple of bad guys, but I never thought of Billy that way.
“I understand there are parts of his character which are awful, but I think he’s trying to get better… He may be capable of change and if he is, Ruby [Richardson, Merritt Wever’s character] is the person he should be with.”
Executive producer Waller-Bridge will guest star as Laurel, a woman the pair meet on the journey.
GLOW's Rich Sommer plays Ruby's husband Laurence, alongside Archie Panjabi (Departure) as Billy's former PA Fiona and Tamara Podemski (Coroner) as police detective Babe Cloud.
