Top Boy 3 confirmed: What you need to know
May 2 | 5 min readIn January 2021, a bunch of amateur online traders flipped the stock market on its head by throwing all their efforts into the video game retailer GameStop.
The world was still in the middle of the Covid pandemic when groups on social media sites such as Reddit ganged together to enact a daring plan to get rich quick and wreak havoc on the markets.
Netflix’s new documentary, Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga reveals the surprising and unlikely characters at the centre of this incredible story, which attempted to turn the tables on the wealthy.
Here three reasons you need to add Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga to your Netflix Watch List…
1. It's an incredible David vs Goliath story

The GameStop Saga takes a humourous look at how a wild group of misfits banded together online and flicked two fingers up at Wall Street.
Communities on sites such as Reddit, TikTok and Discord believed they had discovered a way they could stick it to the man and in words of one contributor in the documentary’s trailer: "YOLO, let’s destroy the economy".
The store GameStop, believed to be a dying bricks and mortar company, became the talk of the world as amateur traders fought against the hedge fund bigwigs in a David vs Goliath battle.
The documentary explores how the odds are stacked in the financial markets and how some of the most unlikely people started an incredible campaign to flip the economic rules upside down.

2. It has exclusive access to the Reddit users

There are other documentaries and films planned about the GameStop saga, but this one has exclusive access to the real people directly involved in Reddit’s infamous wallstreetbets community.
It has interviews with the people directly involved in the short burn movement as well as everyday people and luminaries from the financial world who joined the GameStop party as it turned into a market frenzy.
3. The creators

Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga is executive produced by Emmy and Academy Award-winning filmmakers Dan Cogan and Liz Garbus
Cogan and Garbus are the team behind the production company Story Syndicate and have been involved in a film or documentary you’ve probably watched in the last five years.

And if that was enough, the doc is directed by Theo Love, a producer and director from hits such as The Legend of Cocaine Island and McMillions.
Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga is released on 28 September, exclusively on Netflix
