May 12 | 4 min readBridgerton might have an A-list cast, but its prequel series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story may just accelerate the career of its young lead, India Amarteifio.
The 21-year-old London-born actress, who’s also known as India Ria Amarteifio on IMDB, is a stage and screen star who started her career in London’s West End.
She attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School on a scholarship, then went on to play Hortensia in Matilda the Musical, young Nala in The Lion King and Violet Beauregarde in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the Musical.
India later landed minor TV roles in shows including Line of Duty, The Tunnel, The Evermoor Chronicles and The Midwich Cuckoos, as well as the movie Military Wives.
She was named one of Tatler’s Bright Young Things Class of 2023 which celebrates up-and-coming actors, as well as Variety’s New Brits to Watch for 2023, alongside Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us) and Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid).
So what’s next for the promising young star? Well in the Variety piece, she revealed she wants to explore new genres after Queen Charlotte.
“I’d like to do a dark and gritty thriller, and I’d love to work with Jordan Peele. I’m in awe of his films and it would be incredible to work with him.”

1. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story - Young Queen Charlotte (2023)

In her first lead role, India will play the young Queen Charlotte in Netflix’s highly-anticipated Bridgerton prequel, titled Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
The six-part limited series centres around the fearless Queen Charlotte’s rise to power as well as her love story with King George III.
It's set over two different time periods, with Golda Rosheuvel reprising her role as Queen Charlotte from the main Bridgerton series and India playing the youthful Charlotte.
“I had big shoes to fill,” says India. “Not only as young Charlotte, because Golda has created an iconic role, but just entering the [series’] sphere itself.”
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will be released May 4 on Netflix.

2. Line of Duty - Sophie Huntley (2017)

India starred in the fourth series of cult BBC crime drama Line of Duty as Sophie Huntley, one of the children of Roz Huntley (Thandiwe Newton) and Nick Huntley (Lee Ingleby).
She played the couple's eldest child and only daughter (they also had a son named Ollie, played by Kwame Kandekore).
Line of Duty fans will recall that Roz took time out from her job at Central Police in order to raise her family, and feels under pressure to prove herself when she returns.
Whilst India's role in the cop series was minor, the series itself was not - the Line of Duty season 4 finale (which India featured in) was watched by a whopping 7.5million viewers.

3. The Midwich Cuckoos - Nora Randall (2022)
India played Nora Randall in the Sky Max sci-fi series The Midwich Cuckoos which starred Keeley Hawes.
The terrifying TV adaptation of John Wyndham's classic novel tells the tale of an English village in which the women become pregnant by brood parasitic aliens.
India plays Nora Randall, a teenager who becomes pregnant after agreeing to go to a party on the night of the blackout.
Max Beesley, Hannah Tointon, Lewis Reeves and Samuel West also starred in the chilling seven-episode series.

4. The Evermoor Chronicles - Lacie Fairburn (2015-2017)
India starred in The Evermoor Chronicles, a Disney series about an American teenager who moves to a spooky remote village in England called Evermoor.
She portrayed the character of Lacie Fairburn, a young girl who's always wanted to be mayor.

5. The Tunnel - Maya Roebuck (2017-2018)
India was cast in the Sky Atlantic crime drama The Tunnel, which follows British and French detectives brought together when a body is found inside the Channel Tunnel.
She portrayed Maya Roebuck, the teenage daughter of DCI Karl Roebuck (Stephen Dillane), who she goes to live with in Season 3.
In a review for GPB, TV Critic Rachel Buchman called The Tunnel Season 3 - the show's final season - "a fitting, explosive end to the series."
