In Spotlight: Morven Christie’s best TV shows – from Grantchester to The Bay
Morven Christie is the star of ITV’s murder mystery thriller The Bay – but the Scottish actor has got much more in her portfolio including comedy and a much-loved family drama.
Scottish actor Morven Christie, currently starring as detective Lisa Armstrong in ITV thriller The Bay, grew up in Glasgow and Aviemore before training at Drama Centre London.
She lived in north London with ex-husband Scott Graham, a film director, before they divorced in 2015. She now lives in Glasgow with partner Iain Cook, who is a musician with the band Chvrches.
While the part of troubled family liaison office Armstrong is her biggest role to date, she has also starred in Lakes-based drama The A Word and in a major BBC comedy show. We take a look at her varied TV career so far…
Morven Christie isn’t just a dramatic actor. She starred In the second series of Twenty Twelve, the BBC’s spoof documentary about the Olympics organising committee that also featured Hugh Bonneville, Olivia Colman and Jessica Hynes.
She played Head of Legacy Fiona Healey – one of the few competent members of the committee.

Morven starred in the first three seasons of Grantchester, the ITV detective drama set in 1950s Cambridgeshire.
She certainly had a big part to play in the show – her character Amanda Hopkins, an heiress and art restorer, had a relationship with Reverend Sidney Chambers (James Norton).

This tense psychological thriller saw Morven star alongside Vicky McClure.
Morven played Ellen, a successful architect who gets pregnant as her career is about to take off. She becomes suspicious about her work replacement, Paula, and fears that she is taking over her life.
The A Word
This BBC drama has drawn huge critical acclaim, with Morven starring alongside Lee Ingleby, Christopher Ecclestone and Julie Hesmondhalgh.
Morven plays the mother of Joe, who has autism. The drama explores how the family struggles to understand Joe’s condition and was praised for being believable with superb performances.

The Bay is Morven’s biggest show to date. Across two seasons of the ITV crime drama, she plays the Morecambe-based show's lead character, family liaison officer Lisa Armstrong.
Each series focuses on a different crime. In series 1 Lisa finds herself in a compromising situation that could threaten her career.
In series 2 she is struggling professionally and personally having been demoted from Detective Sergeant and forced to move into a smaller flat with her teenage children, whose estranged father has returned out of the blue.
