Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of the smash hit young adult novel Panic is right at the top of our summer must-watch list.

Bringing together a cast of rising stars, compelling characters and high-stakes drama, this 10-episode series is one you won’t want to miss.

Panic is set in a small Texas town, where every summer the graduating seniors compete in a series of winner takes all challenges which they believe is their one and only chance to escape their circumstances and make their lives better.

But this year, the rules have changed - the pot of money is larger than ever and the game has become even more dangerous. The players will come face-to-face with their deepest, darkest fears and be forced to decide how much they are willing to risk in order to win.

A spellbinding story about fear and friendship, it should appeal to teenagers and adults who understand the emotions of excitement and loneliness in early adulthood.

Olivia Welch as Heather Nill in Panic Prime Video

Speaking to EW about the TV adaptation of her book, Lauren Oliver said the show is about conquering fears and also "the deep terror that all of the kids have in different ways about how much their lives are worth".

She also revealed how the casting of Ray Nicholson as the book's villain Ray, changed how they told the story on screen.

Oliver said that Nicholson's performance meant that they couldn't keep him the "piece of s***" that she wrote in the book.

She said: "I just did not believe that you would be committed to or even credibly believe over time that he is that villain. And that had to re-inform the entire arc of the character. And it's not due to his acting, it's just due to the depth that he was able to bring that actually galvanized me to stop being lazy."
