The Umbrella Academy season 3 plot: What will happen?
The official plot synopsis for The Umbrella Academy season 3 reads as follows:
"After putting a stop to 1963’s doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all.
"But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren’t exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them. Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone’s concerns.
"Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own – and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) — now all they need to do is convince Dad’s new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong.
"Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?"
The Umbrella Academy season 2 ended on a massive cliffhanger, and fans have been waiting two years for the follow-up. Having time travelled to 1963, Ben stopped Vanya from causing World War III, as she was moments away from blowing up the FBI building in Dallas, Texas and setting nuclear war in motion between the US and the Soviets.
The family then returned to 2019 in one piece, except it’s not as they left it - because The Umbrella Academy became The Sparrow Academy. This tied in with the next chapter of the comic book series, titled 'Sparrow Academy'.
Speaking to Forbes, Gerard Way - who writes the comics that the show is based on - said that the 'Sparrow Academy' volume of the comics answers a big question fans have been asking since the very beginning - what about the other babies born on the same day?
Way teased: “[It] deals with a very big reveal in the Umbrella Academy universe, something that had been secret for a long time, and our siblings learn a lot about what was happening behind the scenes, as well as discovering the true nature of some characters that have been with them since the beginning.
“The series finally starts to answer the question: ‘What about the other babies born on that day, in that moment?’ The Umbrella Academy siblings are not alone in the world anymore.”
