Each season of Unforgotten takes Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker), Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) and millions of viewers to towns and cities around the UK as the detectives track down the suspects who have moved on with their lives since becoming involved – or not – with the featured cold case.

Filming locations in previous series have included Liverpool, Brighton, the New Forest, Bristol and King’s Lynn in Norfolk, and season 4 is no less well travelled, visiting sites in London, Kent, Cambridge and Derbyshire.

Where was Unforgotten series 3 filmed?

At the start of series 4, the body of football fan Matthew Walsh is found – minus head and hands - in a scrapyard in Haringey, North London, and many of the external scenes around the pair’s police station and homes are filmed in the capital - in one scene we see the exterior of The Gatehouse pub in Highgate, North London.

But when they start tracking down the four former police constables connected to Walsh’s death, they find them spread far and wide across England.

As Cassie and Sunny are based in London, their nearest suspect is Ram Sidhu (Phaldut Sharma), who lives in the London district of Southall.

The area of West London has been a South Asian hub since the 1950s, and Southall Broadway – where Ram’s family run a clothing store and where he frequently seeks the advice and reassurance of brother Bal – is home to many Asian stores including jewellers, restaurants, food stores and spice markets.

Cambridge

Liz Baildon cycles across Garret Hostel Lane Bridge ITV

The university city of Cambridge is home to Liz Baildon (Susan Lynch) and her fiancée Janet. Liz is often seen cycling down the city's cobbled streets, among the colleges and through the Backs, the picturesque parklands behind the colleges on the banks of the River Cam.

In one scene, Liz cycles over the steep Garret Hostel Lane Bridge (above), commonly known as Orgasm Bridge because of the puffing and panting noises cyclists make as they struggle to climb it and the cries of “Oh yes!” as they finally reach the top.

Among the colleges featured prominently in the series are King's, with its distinctive 16th century chapel, and St John’s.

Buxton and the Peak District

Therapist Fiona Grayson (Liz White) lives with her partner Geoff and their two children in Derbyshire’s beautiful Peak District.

Sweeping camera shots along Winnats Pass show off the stunning scenery around the family home, while the opening episode shows Fiona and Geoff setting up a new business in Market Place in the centre of Buxton.

The spa town’s Devonshire Dome, built as a stables in 1780 and now an events venue and part of the University of Derby, also appears.

Rochester, Kent

Businessman Dean Barton (Andy Nyman) lives in Rochester, Kent, with his wife Marnie and two boys. The opening episode shows off the sights of the historic city, including the Norman cathedral (above) and the River Medway.

The town's Medway Rowing Club is featured and scenes were also filmed in the town of Strood on the opposite bank of the river.

Rochester itself is no stranger to camera crews, and has been the setting for episodes of Foyle’s War, Spooks and Jekyll & Hyde.

It has also been the backdrop for a number of adaptations of Charles Dickens’ novels: Dickens himself lived in and around Rochester for much of his life.
