The Grand Tour fans have been waiting patiently for nearly a year for another adventure special from Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.

After a bumper 2019, when the show aired a full studio series and a watery special - The Grand Tour Presents… Seamen - fans have had to wait patiently for the next special: a road trip in Madagascar.

And not even a global pandemic can keep Clarkson, Hammond and May apart as the trio formed a bubble to film a Scotland special, which is expected to arrive in 2021.

Prime Video has now confirmed that the Madagascar special will premiere on the service on Friday, December 18. While we wait for that to arrive, we revisit some of the show’s greatest moments - all of which are available to watch on Prime Video right now.

Here are our five favourite The Grand Tour episodes ever…

5. The Beach Buggy Boys - Season 1

In a truly classic Clarkson, Hammond and May mission, the presenters were sent to Namibia for a drive around 1,000 miles of coastline in customised beach buggies.

The trio add their own unique flair to their buggy vehicles, but none of them are prepared for the challenges of sand dunes, the Namib Desert or crocodile-infested rivers ahead of them.

In a first season where the show was still finding its feet, this travel special was a reminder that the presenters still had the chemistry to make joyous TV.

4. International Buffoon’s Vacation -
Season 3

A trip to Nevada for an RV holiday isn’t the most scenic trip the boys have ever undertaken, but in terms of silliness and fun it must rank somewhere near the top.

The joy of watching James May buggy racing, the spectacular demolition derby finale and the full English pub modification to May’s vehicle – including bar snacks, dart board and the drinks Ladies' Petrol and Brummie’s Ruin – make this a holiday to remember.

3. Sea to Unsalty Sea - Season 3

If you watch the Grand Tour for travel and holiday inspiration, this is the best episode as the trio tackle a trip from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea in the stunning Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, Bentley Continental GT and BMW 8 Series.

The journey goes from Batumi in Georgia to Baku in Azerbaijan and the show captures the rich history and changing dynamics of the region. It even dabbles in a bit of politics at the Russian border, as they meet a Georgian man who had found himself denied access to his land on the wrong side of a barbed wire fence and armed soldiers.

It also features the cruellest challenge you could play on three middle-aged men with aging bladders, as they are tasked with driving after downing three pints of water.

2. The Colombia Special - Season 3

This episode ticks every box you need for a classic Clarkson, Hammond and May adventure.

First it has the stunning beauty and awe-inspiring landscapes of Colombia. Throw in a ludicrous challenge - wo capture photographs of exotic Colombian wildlife, while travelling across dangerous terrain and rickety tiny bridges - and add ludicrously inappropriate vehicles: a Fiat Panda 4x4, a Jeep Wrangler and a flame-painted Chevrolet Silverado.

Most importantly of all, the presenters just have lots and lots of fun as they soak up the culture and cause absolutely no offence whatsoever - ahem - to the locals.

1. Survival of the Fattest - Season 3

Pretty much every Grand Tour fan has this episode in their top five episodes of all time, if not at number one. The boys are packed off to Mongolia, on the border of the Gobi desert and are challenged to drive to the city of Mörön (Yes, you can see why Mr Wilman picked that destination).

But rather than letting them pick their own cars, the trio have to build their own flat-pack car and given only limited rations of food and drink. The wild ride across deserts, swamps and rough terrain push the trio to their limit as they realise they’re going to either have to work together, starve or strangle each other.
