Clarkson's Farm on Amazon Prime Video: When is it released? What is it about? What on earth is he doing?

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed his new Amazon Original TV show – an eight-part solo series, Clarkson's Farm.

A self-confessed "inept townie", the Grand Tour presenter will run his own 1000-acre working farm in Oxfordshire.

"Good news! I can finally confirm that I’m going to be spending the next year, in the rain, making a show about farming for Amazon Prime," said Clarkson.

"Of course to be a farmer you have to be an agronomist, a businessman, a politician, an accountant, a vet, and a mechanic. And I'm… none of those things. I don’t even know what agronomist means."

Clarkson has been put out of his comfort zone and you're about to see him like you've never seen him before.

What is Clarkson's Farm about?

Filmed over the course of the farming year, the series will show Clarkson like you've never seen him before.

Beginning in Autumn 2019, the series will observe the highs and lows of what Jeremy hopes will be a rural idyll but could just as easily become a rustic nightmare.

The series will cover major events over the year including severe floods and the impact of Covid-19.

Amazon has released the following details:

"Jeremy Clarkson is a journalist, a broadcaster, and a man who travels the world to slide sideways in supercars while shouting. He is not a farmer, which is unfortunate because he’s bought a 1,000-acre farm in the English countryside and decided to run it himself, despite knowing nothing whatsoever about farming.

"The series follows an intense, backbreaking and frequently hilarious year in the life of Britain’s most unlikely farmer and his team, as they contend with the worst farming weather in decades, disobedient animals, unresponsive crops, and an unexpected pandemic.

"Helped only by his gang of agricultural associates, Clarkson quickly discovers that a modern farmer must be a conservationist, scientist, shepherd, shopkeeper, midwife, engineer, accountant and tractor driver, often at the same time."

When is Clarkson's Farm released on Amazon?

Filming has already been completed and in March 2021 Clarkson told DriveTribe how he can't wait to discover what the public make of his uncharactistically genteel new adventure.

"I'm looking forward to people's reactions to it because it's like nothing I've done before," said Clarkson.

"Nobody falls over, nobody catches fire, nobody explodes. It's a quiet genteel look at how farming is done and how I react to it. It's a nice programme. And there are some amazing facts about farming."

Has The Grand Tour been cancelled?

Far from it. Clarkson, Hammond and May were last seen searching for pirate treasure in Madagascar in their latest Prime Video special, A Massive Hunt, and another adventure - a nine-day Scottish jaunt that sees them travel from Edinburgh to the Hebrides during last summer's Covid lockdown - is already in the can. 

The trio's next adventure was planned for Russia, but due to travel restrictions, that has been put on hold until the global Coronavirus pandemic has eased.

"The Russia is simply postponed, until we don’t know when," said May last year.

"It’s too unpredictable to predict. We’ve done lots of preparation for it. It’s a bit like a big jigsaw puzzle. We will get it out again at some point and finish it off."

What shows are Hammond and May working on?

Uncharacteristically, James May was first off the mark with his own spinoff series on Prime Video – Our Man in Japan.

Fifteen years after James May first visited Japan as a baffled tourist, he embarks on a quest to understand the unique, extraordinary  and complex country.

In November he also presented his own cookery show, James May: Oh Cook, which is also available on Prime Video and accompanied by a book of "60 easy recipes that any idiot can make".

Richard Hammond's spinoff series, The Great Escapists, sees him team up with Mythbusters star Tory Belleci for a survival show which also combines pop science and engineering.

The epic six-part series, which was released on Prime Video in January 2021, features Hammond and Belleci shipwrecked in mysterious circumstances, stranded on a remote yet beautiful desert island.

Rather than sitting around waiting to be rescued, the pair decide to take matters into their own hands as they use all of their engineering and expert scientific prowess not only to survive, but to construct an out-of-this-world, paradise island playground.

The series follows Richard and Tory as they masterfully construct their exotic wonderland using what they have from the shipwreck and what they can find on the island. Each episode will see them take on huge feats of engineering to achieve epic builds in what will be a once in a lifetime operation for the two lovers of science, engineering and making the impossible, possible. The duo’s hare-brained builds range from island hopping vehicles to a supersized hydro-power waterwheel.
