Harley Quinn returns in the superhero action movie Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn.

Starring Margot Robbie in the titular role, the movie sees Quinn team up with Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from a Gotham City crime lord.

With the film's title seemingly acknowledging her break up from the Joker, it follows on from 2016’s Suicide Squad and is the eighth film in the DC Extended Universe.

How to watch in the UK at home

Following its release in cinemas at the start of 2020, Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn is available on home entertainment release from Friday, April 24.

BT TV customers can buy it from the BT TV Film Store from this date.

It will be available to rent from Monday, May 11, and on DVD from Monday, June 15.

Birds of Prey story: The unlikely foursome team up

Since the events of 2016’s Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn has split from the Joker (Jared Leto).

Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass. 

Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.

Margot Robbie (I, Tonya, The Wolf of Wall Street) returns as Harley Quinn, the former-certified psychiatrist, who became a crazed criminal and later a part of the Suicide Squad.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane, Fargo) plays The Huntress, a vigilante who’s the orphaned daughter of a gangster.

True Blood and Friday Night Lights star Jurnee Smollett-Bell plays Black Canary, a fellow vigilante with the metahuman ability of hypersonic screams, which she inherited from her mother.

Rosie Perez (Fearless, Pitch Perfect 2) plays Renee Montoya, an alcoholic, cynical detective in the Gotham City Police Department.

Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge!, Trainspotting) plays Roman Sionis, a brutal and iron-fisted crime lord. 

Argo and Sharp Objects actor Chris Messina plays Victor Zsasz, a deranged mob killer and henchman of Sionis who carves a tally mark on his skin for each victim he claims.

Newcomer Ella Jay Basco also stars as Cassandra 'Cass' Cain in her feature film debut.

A Birds of Prey sequel hasn’t been confirmed by Warner Bros, but Gizmodo reports that Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in The Suicide Squad (2021).
