Described by NME as "Derry Girls meets Love, Simon", Dating Amber is set to be your next must-watch teen film. 

Combining romance,  drama and comedy, the Irish coming-of-age movie is directed by David Freyne (The Cured) and premieres exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

The film follows two school friends who start a pretend relationship in an effort to fit in, and prevent questions about their sexuality.

Normal People's Fionn O'Shea, Catastrophe's Shargon Horgan and White Lines' Barry Ward all star in the movie, which director Freyne has described as ‘the most personal film’ he’ll ever make.

What is Dating Amber about?

Set in mid-90s Ireland, Eddie (Fionn O’Shea) and Amber (Lola Petticrew) pretend to be in a relationship to stop people from speculating about their sexuality. 

Eddie is inclined to follow in his father’s footsteps and enter the military academy, while Amber dreams of moving to London.

However, their plans start to go off track. Eddie’s life becomes more complicated, and Amber realises that her best friend’s life could go very badly if she doesn’t intervene in the situation...

Who’s in the cast of Dating Amber?

Fionn O’Shea, who recently starred as Marianne’s boyfriend Jamie in BBC Three’s teen drama Normal People, takes on the role of Eddie. Fionn is also known for roles in Handsome Devil, Innocent and Roy.

He stars alongside Lola Petticrew as Amber. Lola is best known for roles in A Bump Along the Way and My Left Nut. 

The film also features Barry Ward as Ian. Netflix fans will recognise Barry from his recent role as Mike Collins in White Lines - the husband of Laura Haddock’s character, Zoe.

You may also know him from roles in Save Me, Britannia, The Capture and The Fall.

Sharon Horgan also stars in the film in an undisclosed role. She’s appeared in Catastrophe alongside Rob Delaney, This Way Up with Aisling Bea and Military Wives alongside Kristin Scott Thomas.

Simone Kirby (Peaky Blinders, Resistance, Rebellion) also stars as Jill.
