It broke the US record for the biggest opening weekend by a video game-based film.

And Sonic The Hedgehog, the big-screen adaptation of the classic Sega video game, is a fun-filled movie the whole family can enjoy.

The film sees a small-town police officer (James Marsden) help the superfast hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz) to defeat an evil genius (Jim Carrey).

Following its release in cinemas, Sonic The Hedgehog is available to buy on home entertainment release now.

BT TV customers can buy Sonic The Hedgehog from the BT TV Film Store now.

It will be available to rent, and on DVD, at a later date.

Sonic storyline and plot details

The 2020 family film is based on the cult blockbuster Sega video game of the same name. 

Sonic The Hedgehog tells the story of the world's fastest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. 

In the live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination.

Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation, House of Lies), voices Sonic, the hedgehog with superhuman speed who is on the run from the United States government - and Dr Robotnik. 

Ace Ventura and Liar Liar actor Jim Carrey plays Dr Ivo Robotnik, a mad scientist and evil inventor who wants Sonic's super-speed powers so he can take over the world.

James Marsden (X-Men, Enchanted) stars as Tom Wachowski, a local police officer who befriends Sonic and helps him in his quest to stop Robotnik.
