BritBox is now on BT TV: Classic dramas, comedies and films all in one place

The BritBox app is now available on BT TV set-top boxes, which means you can watch classic British box sets like Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, Only Fools and Horses and Gavin & Stacey.

BritBox is the latest app to join the BT TV set-top box lineup, which means there is more variety and classic box sets available to stream than ever before.

The streaming service offers BT TV viewers British box sets from the finest home-grown talent, including the likes of Downton Abbey, Broadchurch, Gavin & Stacey, classic Doctor Who, Only Fools and Horses, Vera, Broadchurch, Love Island and many more.

BT TV customers can access the app with their current BritBox log-in details or sign up online.

Joining a lineup of streaming services including NOW TV, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, there is more entertainment to choose from than ever before on BT TV.

What is BritBox?

BritBox is a new subscription streaming service created by the BBC and ITV to bring together the very best in British programming from the past, present and future.

Box sets from All 4 and British films from Film 4, factual and entertainment series from Channel 5 and original British series from Comedy Central are also part of the service.

BritBox features the biggest collection of British content available on any streaming service.

Featuring curated collections from Britain’s best-loved TV stars, the service makes it easy for viewers to rewatch shows they lover and discover new favourites.

New and exclusive series will also be released on BritBox, starting with brand new series of the classic ITV satirical puppet show Spitting Image in autumn 2020.

July is jam-packed with great new British drama on BritBox including the eight-hour Richard Gere drama MotherFatherSon, series one to five of Irish crime series Love/Hate, the brilliant and passionate First World War romance Birdsong, Helena Bonham Carter and Dominic West in the explosive Burton & Taylor, all four series of ITV’s lavish period drama Mr Selfridge and the adaptation of William Boyd’s Any Human Heart, starring Jim Broadbent, Matthew Macfadyen and Sam Clafin.

Call the Midwife fans can rejoice as series one to eight – and the heartwarming Christmas specials – are now available to stream.

Documentary lovers can feast on over 40 Louis Theroux episodes, including his unforgettable When Louis Met, Weird Weekends and Dark States series.

Spitting Image - Exclusive to BritBox

The first original commission on BritBox is a revival of the Bafta-winning satirical comedy Spitting Image.

The classic puppet series originally aired for 18 series between 1984 and 1996 and was famous for its merciless mocking of celebrities and political figures including most famously Margaret Thatcher, John Major and the Royal Family.

Puppets confirmed for the new series include Dominic Cummings, James Corden, Donald Trump, RuPaul, Boris Johnson, Beyoncé, Elon Musk, Harry & Meghan, Bernie Sanders, Prince Andrew, Adele, and Vladimir Putin.

The original series voice cast included Chris Barrie, Harry Enfield, John Sessions, Jon Glover, Louise Gold, Kate Robbins, Steve Coogan and Alistair McGowan. And the show even spawned a number one single with The Chicken Song, a parody of Black Lace’s summer holiday favourite Agadoo.

On top of the hours and hours of classic drama and comedy box sets, BritBox has launched a series of nostalgic treats with classic children’s television.

The first batch of shows includes first seasons of  The Worst Witch (1998), Press Gang (1989), and Children’s Ward (1989) and episodes of of Puddle Lane (1985), Murphy’s Mob (1982), Jungle Run (1999), Tots TV (1993), Wizadora (1991), Wolves, Witches and Giants (1995), and Woof! (1989).

And most exciting of all, BritBox also has a Gerry Anderson collection with 10 of the best episodes of Thunderbirds and classic Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 and Stingray.

Soap fans haven’t been forgotten on BritBox. If you love Coronation Street and Emmerdale, handpicked episodes including some of the shows’ most momentous moments, spanning four decades, have been curated.

The classic episodes include the very first episode of Emmerdale (then called Emmerdale Farm) from October 1972, and the memorable Coronation Street episode from 1974 where Bet, Emily, Deirdre, Mavis, Rita, Betty, Annie and Hilda holiday in Majorca. 

Soap fans can also peruse episode collections including Classic Couples, Soap Disasters, Hatches, Matches and Dispatches, and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

A collection of documentaries and live performances from British pop legends, past and present, are available in The Centre Stage collection.
